FAQs

Here are the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.

What is an adjustment?

An adjustment is a treatment technique where the chiropractor uses his/her hands to apply a specific, quick, non-invasive thrust to a certain joint. It is a painless, safe and effective way to improve spine and joint mobility and nervous system function.

Is chiropractic safe?

Yes. Chiropractic care has an enviable safety record compared to most other healthcare interventions. A thorough examination is essential for us to diagnose your condition and assess your needs and we will only adjust you if is appropriate to do so. If we believe your case is outside of our scope of practice we will refer you to the appropriate medical professional.

What qualifications does my chiropractor have?

Both Dean and Giselle studied at DUT in South Africa for 7 years to attain their Doctor of Chiropractic Masters degree.

Areas of study include: anatomy, physiology, pathology, neurology, orthopaedics, nutrition, diagnosis, radiology and pharmacology. To practice in the UK all chiropractors must be registered with the General Chiropractic Council in order to call themselves a chiropractor.

Chiropractors must also complete 30 hours of annual Continual Professional Development to remain up-to-date with their skills and knowledge.

Who can get adjusted?

Anyone and everyone with a spine and joints! We’ve seen day old babies and golden oldies, busy adults, pregnant mama’s, sports people, teens and tweens. You might be looking for someone to help with back pain, neck pain, headaches or migraines, shoulder pain, overall joint pain or sporting injuries, or you might want to check your posture and overall health. We are here for your every health need!

I’m pregnant, can I see a chiropractor?

Absolutely. Having a well aligned spine during pregnancy and pre-conception allows for optimal development and positioning of the baby during gestation. Studies have shown that expecting mothers, who have regular chiropractic care during pregnancy experience less pain1 and shorter labour times2. Chiropractic techniques for pregnant patients are modified for maximum comfort and safety.

How many chiropractic sessions will I need?

Everyone’s’ healing rates are slightly different, depending on various factors including how long the issue has been there, how severe it is, your lifestyle and how your body responds to the care. We’ll determine an individualised care plan for you based on our findings and ensure we have regular check ins to make sure your care plan is running on track for you.

How long do chiropractic appointments take?

We know time is important to you. Your first 2 appointments will be longer than the rest as we get to connect with you and do an in depth initial assessment with a follow up report of findings. After that your chiropractic sessions or ‘adjustments’ will vary depending on you and your personalised care plan.

What is that cracking noise in my joints?

No, it’s not bone on bone crunching or anything scary like that! The pop and click you might hear from a chiropractic adjustment is also called a joint cavitation. The noise is a release of air pockets that build up in the joints of the spine. So just like opening a bottle of prosecco or a can of soda we hear that ‘pop’ – it’s the same concept. Gas bubbles releasing. Also, saying this, the research shows you don’t need to hear a ‘pop’ for the adjustment to have an effect, we’re stimulating your brain for healing, not your bones – so don’t get addicted to the crack (although most people find it deeply satisfying!).
